Every program at A Better Way exists for one reason — to move people from where they are to where they are capable of being. In 90 days or less.
This is not a classroom exercise. This is a direct pipeline from skills training to a real paycheck.
The Workforce Activation Program runs rolling cohorts of 10–20 participants every 30–45 days. Every participant is assessed, placed into a training track, assigned a case manager, and connected to a real job placement before their training ends.
2–4 weeks. Participants train in a real working barber shop, earn while they learn, and graduate into apprentice or chair-rental status. Zero gap between training and income.
1–2 weeks. The fastest path to a paycheck. Low barrier to entry, immediate revenue attachment, and fully scalable. Graduates deploy as crew members on commercial cleaning contracts.
2–6 weeks. Leverages existing contractor relationships and job sites. Participants graduate into labor crew positions with real hours and real wages from day one.
We track everything. Because funders fund outcomes — and our outcomes are real.
The Community Guardian Initiative deploys trained community members — people with lived experience — as de-escalation specialists, resource connectors, and visible community safety partners.
This is not law enforcement. This is something more effective — people who have been where the community is, who speak the language, who understand the context, and who show up not with authority but with accountability.
Community de-escalation

Visible community presence
In high-need areas, creating safety through relationships not enforcement

Institutional partnerships
Cities, housing authorities, and school districts
CGI positions A Better Way as a public safety partner — unlocking a distinct and larger category of government and institutional funding unavailable to standard workforce programs. Municipal and housing authority contracts are larger, longer-term, and less competitive than typical grants.
CGI Guardians are WAP graduates. The people we trained become the people who protect and serve the community. That is the cycle we are building.
If any link breaks, the system degrades. Protecting this pipeline is our primary operational responsibility.
